Podcast Recap: Episode 4

To supplement our podcasts, we will often write a blog post recapping the important items discussed on the most recent episode, with additional commentary on some of those topics.

Topic 1: Running Back Value in Dynasty/Devy Leauges

This segment focused on the uncertainty of building your dynasty and devy team around running backs with the current landscape of the NFL. The running back position has become so hard to evaluate due to so many NFL teams using committees and having specialized backs for specific roles in the offense. We talked about how a true three down back is very rare and those backs need to be high on rankings because they have a higher ceiling and a higher floor based on opportunities. We also discussed how running backs that are not involved in the pass game are riskier because they are very touchdown and game flow dependent from week to week.

Topic 2: What are some of the traits that are most crucial when evaluating running backs at the collegiate level?

Matt, Nick and I had a discussion on what traits we look for when evaluating college running backs and how they may transition to the NFL level. Some of the traits we discussed included their hands, pass protection, speed, agility, balance, vision, physicality, elusiveness, power, tackle breaking, and what scheme they best fit.
